Neck Lift in Plano & Dallas, TX

When the neck loses definition, the jawline starts to look softer, and the lower face can appear heavier. The face can look more squared and undefined. Many patients notice loose skin under the chin, neck bands, fullness that does not change with weight loss, or a jawline that no longer looks clean.

Even when the cheeks and eyes still look remarkable, changes in the neck can make the whole face look older or less structured.

Dr. Derek Sheen approaches neck lift surgery with the same philosophy he brings to all facial rejuvenation: the result should be natural, but the improvement should be meaningful. A neck lift should not create a tight or artificial look. It should restore a cleaner neck, a sharper jawline, and a more balanced transition between the face and neck.

For many patients, the neck is treated as part of an extended preservation deep plane facelift. For others, a more focused neck lift may be appropriate. The right plan depends on the anatomy: skin laxity, platysmal bands, deeper fullness beneath the chin, jawline definition, chin projection, and how much lower facial descent is present.

Dr. Sheen’s goal is a definitive, restorative, and unmistakable improvement: a neck that looks cleaner, more refined, and more naturally aligned with the rest of the face.

What Is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is a facial plastic surgery that improves the appearance of loose skin, muscle banding, fullness, and poor definition beneath the chin and along the neck.

A neck lift may be appropriate for patients who notice:

  • Loose skin under the chin
  • Neck bands
  • Fullness beneath the chin
  • A poorly defined jawline
  • Heaviness through the lower face and neck
  • A “turkey neck” appearance
  • Sagging that does not improve with weight loss
  • A neck that looks older than the rest of the face
  • Loss of a clean angle between the chin and neck

In a meticulous surgical plan, the deeper neck structures are evaluated carefully. Skin, fat, muscle, and jawline support all matter.

Dr. Sheen’s approach is designed to create a substantial improvement in neck contour while avoiding the tight, pulled appearance that can occur when the skin is asked to do too much.

Dr. Sheen’s Extended Deep Plane Approach to the Neck

Dr. Sheen often addresses the neck through an extended preservation deep plane facelift approach. The principle is straightforward: less disruption at the surface, more complete work beneath it.

Preservation refers to how the skin is handled. Rather than aggressively separating the skin and relying on surface tension, Dr. Sheen keeps skin dissection conservative when appropriate. This helps preserve circulation, reduce unnecessary tissue disruption, and support smoother healing.

Extension refers to the deeper release and repositioning. In an extended deep plane approach, the deeper facial tissues and retaining ligaments are addressed more comprehensively. This matters because the neck is closely connected to the lower face. Jowls, jawline laxity, and neck heaviness often come from the same pattern of descent.

As deeper tissues are released and repositioned properly, the jawline can look cleaner, and the neck can look more naturally supported. The skin then settles over a better framework rather than being pulled tight.

Patients who have more significant neck laxity or deeper fullness may also need additional neck work, such as platysma tightening or deep neck contouring. Dr. Sheen’s goal for neck lift patients is a complete improvement that looks natural in motion and holds well over time.

Why Does the Neck Matter So Much?

A defined neck can make the jawline look stronger, the face looks lighter, and the profile looks cleaner. When the neck softens, it can blur the border between the face and the body.

Several factors can affect the way the neck ages:

  • Loose skin can collect under the chin or along the front of the neck.
  • Platysmal bands can create vertical cords that show when speaking, smiling, or looking down.
  • Submental fullness can make the neck look heavy, even in patients who are not overweight.
  • Jawline descent can contribute to jowling and make the neck look less defined.
  • Chin projection can affect the angle between the chin and neck.
  • Skin quality can influence how smooth, firm, or crepey the neck appears.

For Dr. Sheen, neck rejuvenation works best when these details are separated clearly. The improvement can be striking, but the plan has to match the anatomy.

Is a Neck Lift Performed Alone or With a Facelift?

A neck lift can be performed alone when the concern is mainly below the chin and along the neck.

More often, the neck is addressed as part of a larger facial rejuvenation plan. This is because the neck, jawline, and lower face age together. If jowls are contributing to the neck’s appearance, treating the neck alone may not create the most complete result.

During consultation, Dr. Sheen evaluates whether the issue is isolated neck laxity, deeper neck fullness, lower facial descent, weak chin projection, skin quality, or a combination of these concerns.

Some patients may benefit from neck lift surgery combined with:

  • Blepharoplasty when the eyes also contribute to a tired appearance
  • Midface lift when cheek descent is part of the overall aging pattern
  • Buccal fat removal to reduce fullness in the lower cheeks and define cheekbones
  • Skin resurfacing for texture, crepiness, or sun damage

The Whole Face Approach to Neck Rejuvenation

During the consultation, Dr. Sheen looks at the neck, jawline, jowls, chin projection, lower face, cheeks, skin quality, facial volume, and overall profile, as each detail affects the final result.

A patient may think they need only a neck lift, but the jowls may be part of the same descent. Another may focus on loose skin, but deeper neck fullness may be the real issue. A patient may want sharper neck definition, but the chin may need more projection to create the right angle.

This is where Dr. Sheen’s approach becomes comprehensive rather than formulaic. He studies how the face and neck have changed together and how each part contributes to the overall appearance.

For some patients, the key maneuver is a neck lift alone. For others, the most natural and striking result may involve an extended deep plane facelift, chin augmentation, facial fat grafting, or skin resurfacing.

How Does Dr. Sheen Approach a Facial Plastic Surgery Consultation?

A strong neck lift result begins with understanding what is actually causing the neck to look loose, heavy, or poorly defined.

Patients often come in focused on one concern: loose skin, bands, fullness under the chin, or a disappearing jawline. In many cases, these concerns are connected. Dr. Sheen’s consultation is designed to separate what is related to skin laxity, platysmal banding, deeper neck fullness, jawline descent, chin projection, and skin quality.

His neck lift consultations are organized around three concerns: perspective, expectations, and trust.

Perspective.

The consultation begins by looking at the face and neck together. Dr. Sheen evaluates the jawline, chin, jowls, neck angle, skin quality, platysma, and overall facial balance. The goal is to understand whether the neck is the main issue or whether it is part of a more complete pattern of facial aging.

Expectations.

The conversation covers what a neck lift can improve, what it cannot, and what recovery realistically looks like. Dr. Sheen is direct about downtime, incision placement, deeper neck work, and whether the result will be stronger with a related procedure such as deep plane facelift, chin augmentation, or skin resurfacing. A meaningful result should look natural, but it should also be significant enough to restore real definition.

Trust.

There is no pressure to proceed. The consultation is meant to give patients clarity about what is happening in the neck and which approach would create the most balanced result. For some patients, that may be a focused neck lift. For others, a more complete facelift and neck plan may be the better option. Everything begins with an honest evaluation.

What Happens During Neck Lift Surgery in Plano, TX?

The surgical plan depends on the patient’s anatomy, skin quality, neck fullness, jawline definition, and whether the neck lift is performed alone or with a facelift.

In general, Dr. Sheen works to improve the deeper support of the neck rather than relying only on surface tightening. Depending on the anatomy, this may involve tightening the platysma muscle, reducing fullness beneath the chin, improving the neck angle, and redraping the skin more smoothly.

Neck lift incisions will be carefully planned and placed around the ear, behind the ear, and sometimes underneath the patient’s chin. The exact pattern depends on how much correction is needed and whether the neck lift is being combined with facelift surgery.

When deeper neck fullness is present, Dr. Sheen may address the structures beneath the platysma to create a cleaner contour. When jowling or lower facial descent is present, Dr. Sheen might recommend an extended deep plane facelift so that the jawline and neck can be improved together.

The details are decided before surgery, based on the patient’s anatomy and goals.

FELLOWSHIP-TRAINED FACIAL PLASTIC SURGEON

Dr. Sheen’s Training and Experience

Dr. Sheen’s approach to neck lift surgery is shaped by his training in facial anatomy, facial aesthetics, and modern deep plane rejuvenation.

He completed residency training at UT Southwestern, with surgical experience at Parkland Memorial Hospital and the Dallas VA. He then completed advanced facial plastic surgery fellowship training at NYU under three internationally recognized facial plastic surgeons: Dr. David Rosenberg, Dr. Matthew White, and Dr. Philip Miller.

During his fellowship, the deep plane facelift was one of Dr. Sheen’s most studied procedures. This included primary facial rejuvenation, revision surgery, brow and eyelid procedures, fat grafting, and techniques designed to improve the face and neck more completely. Dr. Sheen also served as a clinical instructor at NYU, teaching resident physicians in the operating room while continuing to refine his own surgical approach.

During his transition from New York to Dallas, he completed a fellowship in Seoul, Korea at Asan Medical Center under Professor Jong Woo Choi, Chief and Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The fellowship gave him direct exposure to advanced rhinoplasty techniques from surgeons at the center of Korea’s global reputation in facial aesthetics, insight he has brought back into his own approach to the nose.

Dr. Sheen’s technique implements careful preservation at the surface, more complete work in the deeper facial layer, and a consistent focus on natural movement, facial balance, and durable improvement.

What Does a Good Neck Lift Result Look Like?

A transformative neck lift result restores the line between the face and neck.

The jawline should look cleaner. The neck should look smoother and more defined. Fullness beneath the chin should be improved. The face should still move naturally, and the neck should not look tight, roped, or overdone.

For Dr. Sheen, the goal is a natural but unmistakable improvement: sharper definition, a cleaner profile, and a result that fits the patient’s face without calling attention to surgery.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift in Dallas?

A good candidate for a neck lift is usually someone who wants a cleaner, more defined neck and jawline without looking altered. Common concerns may include:

  • Loose skin under the chin
  • Vertical neck bands
  • Fullness beneath the chin
  • A soft or poorly defined jawline
  • Early jowling
  • A heavy lower face
  • Neck laxity after weight loss
  • A neck that looks older than the face
  • A desire for a more definitive result than nonsurgical treatment can provide

The right candidate is also someone who wants a meaningful improvement. A neck lift is not meant to create a timid change that leaves the main concern behind. Dr. Sheen’s approach is designed for patients who want real refinement while still looking natural.

Some patients are better suited for a focused neck procedure. Others need a more comprehensive deep plane facelift. Some may benefit from chin augmentation, buccal fat removal, submandibular gland reduction, skin resurfacing, or a different plan entirely. Dr. Sheen determines this during consultation.

Neck Lift Recovery

Neck lift recovery depends on the extent of surgery and whether the procedure is combined with a deep-plane facelift, chin augmentation, blepharoplasty, fat grafting, or skin resurfacing.

  • The first three to four days are usually the most demanding. Tightness, swelling, and bruising can be expected, especially beneath the chin, along the jawline, and through the upper neck. Patients should plan to rest at home, stay hydrated, and sleep with their head elevated.
  • By day five, many patients begin to feel meaningfully better. Walking around the house and light activity are usually easier. The neck may still feel tight, firm, or swollen.
  • By the end of the first week, early swelling and bruising begin to improve. Some patients feel comfortable handling light errands, especially if they do not mind being seen by people who know they had surgery.
  • By two to three weeks, many patients feel more comfortable being seen socially. Some residual swelling remains, but it is usually less noticeable to others. The neck and jawline begin to look cleaner as swelling settles.
  • By four to six weeks, most patients are returning to more normal routines. Light exercise may resume earlier with guidance. More strenuous activity, including weight training and high-heart-rate cardio, is usually delayed until the deeper tissues have healed further.
  • By three months, the result usually looks more refined. The neck angle becomes clearer, the jawline looks more defined, and the tissues begin to feel softer and more natural.
  • Final results continue to refine over six to twelve months. Incisions fade, firmness softens, and the deeper tissues settle into their new position. Recovery has its own pace, and there is no advantage in rushing it.

Dallas-Fort Worth Neck Lift FAQs

Can a neck lift improve jowls?

A neck lift can improve the neck and jawline, but jowls are often related to lower facial descent. If jowling is significant, Dr. Sheen may recommend a deep plane facelift so the lower face and neck can be restored together.

Absolutely. Improving jawline definition is often one of the major goals of neck lift surgery. The degree of improvement depends on the patient’s anatomy, weight, skin quality, submandibular gland prominence, hyoid bone position, chin projection, neck fullness, and whether lower facial descent is also present.

Neck bands are usually caused by changes in the platysma muscle. Over time, the muscle can separate or become more visible through the skin. A neck lift may include platysma tightening to improve these bands. Deeper structures in the neck can also contribute.

Yes, when fullness is related to fat, loose tissue, or deeper neck structures. Dr. Sheen evaluates whether fullness is superficial, deep, related to hyoid bone or chin position, or part of broader lower facial aging before recommending a plan.

Yes. Dr. Sheen’s goal is a smoother, more defined neck that still looks like the patient. Natural does not mean barely changed. A neck lift can create a significant and unmistakable improvement without looking tight or surgical.

Incisions are typically placed around the ear, behind the ear, and sometimes beneath the chin. The exact pattern depends on whether the procedure is a focused neck lift or part of a deeper facelift and neck rejuvenation plan.

Most patients should plan for 7 to 10 days away from work entirely. Many feel more comfortable socially around two to three weeks. Swelling and firmness continue to refine over several months.

Yes. Men often seek neck lift surgery to restore a sharper jawline and cleaner neck angle. Male neck lift planning has to account for beard growth, thicker skin, and masculine facial structure.

Yes. Chin projection can strongly affect the neck angle. In patients with a weaker chin, chin augmentation may help create a more balanced and definitive neck and jawline result.

Sometimes. Significant weight loss can create loose skin and soft tissue laxity in the neck. Dr. Sheen evaluates whether the concern is skin excess, deeper laxity, residual fullness, or lower facial descent before recommending surgery.
